Mr. Montgomery Simus is Vice President of Business Development and International Investments for The Bayat Group (www.bayat-group.com), a post conflict- / transition market-focused family office whose primary metric of success is to identify, fund, mentor, and scale sustainable businesses that can create significant numbers of new jobs and build resilience in fragile markets.

Leading an international team distributed across the U.S., Middle East, and Central Asia, Mr. Simus has spent much of the past decade focused on the deployment of catalytic philanthropy, innovative social finance, and equity investment capital to high-growth, purpose-driven enterprises that serve millions of at-risk Afghans. During this time, he has introduced impact ventures such as Afghanistan’s first pay-as-you-go off grid solar initiative; Afghan’s first gas-fired power plant in nearly 45 years; (www.bayatpower.com)and formed philanthropic partnerships that have allowed annual missions to deliver the gift of hearing to Afghanistan’s hearing impaired and provided >3M emergency meals annually to the most at-risk Afghan families (www.bayatfoundation.org).

A graduate of Yale and Harvard, Mr. Simus is proud to be part of the Bayat Power team which is brining Afghanistan’s gas-fired generation industry back online in order to provide much needed domestic power to the nation. The first phase of Bayat Power 1 will generate enough electricity for more than 200,000 Afghan homes and businesses and, when all three phases of Bayat Power 1 are completed, the plant will generate more than 200 megawatts of power.
