Ms. Catherine Winning
Catherine Winning is the Customer Solutions Manager for Europe at Smart Wires. Catherine manages the team of Engineers supporting utility customers to study and deploy SmartValves on their network with the aim to maximise network utilisation. This includes supporting technical assurance work, such as the assessment of the SmartValve control system and reviewing of technical steady state and dynamic studies for Smart Wires customers. Catherine has been a collaborative author in several publications focusing on the deployment of Smart Wires technology globally, these include CIGRE paper on ‘Using advance modular FACTs to increase flexibility of distribution networks and enable the connection of more distributed energy resources’.
Prior to this, Catherine worked at National Grid in the UK on short term modelling, planning, and operation of electricity transmission networks. Commercial work that Catherine was involved with included the assessment and recommendation of in year outage requests and commercial services for the management of network congestion to minimise end consumer costs. Short term planning work included the technical assessment of short term outages for thermal, voltage and stability impacts and providing an approved plan to the Electricity Control Room.
She is an electrical engineer by training with a focus on power systems and control theory. She holds a MEng from Imperial College London.
